The window shown here is one of the original windows in the Sisters of St. Augustine convent chapel, which is now part of the parish office.
St. Rose of Lima was a lay member of the Dominican Order who was declared a saint in 1671, making her the first person born in the Americas to be canonized a saint by the Catholic Church. St. Rose is the patron saint of gardeners, florists, and embroiderers.
Because of her beauty, Isabel Flores De Oliva, was nicknamed "Rose." Inspired by St. Catherine of Siena, Rose wanted to become a nun. She often prayed and fasted in secret. It was said she slept only two hours per night so as to have more time for prayer.
Members of the St. Rose of Lima Guild meet every other week in the summer to work in the parish gardens. One hour of work will be followed by one hour of socializing. We also gather one Saturday morning in the fall and spring for a parish-wide clean-up to prepare the gardens for the change of season. Check back for dates when we will resume our meeting schedule.
