St. Augustine Parish makes a monthly donation to each of these worthy organizations. We also encourage interested parishioners to explore voluntary opportunities with these groups. Established in 1890, Calvary Baptist Church is the oldest Black church in Washington. The church continues to serve the community in any way it can. Every Saturday, Rev. Chet Andrews and the Calvary Baptist community feed over 100 community members at its soup kitchen.
Family Promise of Spokane assists families from the moment they are homeless until three years after they are settled into a home. Over 35 churches work together in helping this organization and its three levels of assistance. Open Door is a family emergency shelter, Bridges helps families transition from homelessness into homes, and Village helps families transition well once they are in their new place. St. Augustine Parish is one of the founding churches and ongoing supporters of Our Place, an ecumenical Christian organization that aims to meet critical needs of the disabled, the young and elderly, and the homeless in Spokane's West Central neighborhood. Our Place has fed and clothed nearly 14,000 people, distributed 250,000 pounds of food and personal items, provided bus passes and laundry facilities, and taught people how to cook nutritional meals for their families. Founded in 1833, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a worldwide organization dedicated to serving neighbors in need. The National Council of the United States, Society of St. Vincent de Paul was established to organize and represent local St. Vincent de Paul Conferences and Councils among the global Society’s membership. Today, with nearly 100,000 members, the National Council provides resources, training, and spiritual development for Vincentians throughout 4,428 local Conferences and 500 Councils. Our donations go to support the St. Vincent de Paul Society at Mary Queen Parish in Spokane.
