The Sacramental Preparation program assists families in preparing their children to receive the Sacraments of Penance, Confirmation, and First Holy Communion. While children often celebrate these sacraments for the first time in second grade, older children are welcome to join the program. The program will be integrated with the Religious Education program (For information: Religious Education Program). Those preparing to celebrate the sacraments will attend the RE lessons in the church on Sundays following the 9:00 a.m. Mass (10:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.) and will have additional instruction on Penance, Confirmation, and the Eucharist in the Spring. Your child must be registered and participating in the Religous Education program to be part of the Sacramental Preparation Program. It is expected that parents seeking Sacramental Preparation for their child are registered and have been active in the parish for at least a year, be a regular contributor to the parish (through volunteering or financially) and be taking part in the liturgical life of the Church - which includes attendance at Sunday Mass and Holy Days of Obligation. To register: Religious Education Program Registration. Questions? Don't hesitate to contact the parish office at (509)747-4421.
Since her earliest days, the Church has always celebrated three Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, and First Eucharist. In the ancient church, new initiates into the Faith would receive these sacraments on a single day and in a specific order. Like adult converts today, an initiate would first enter into the Church through Baptism, then be solidified in their faith through Confirmation, and finally, participate fully in the life of the Church by receiving the Precious Body and Blood of our Lord. The Catholic Diocese of Spokane has restored the Sacraments of Initiation to this original order for children as well as adults who enter into the Faith. For some excellent written and video resources on the restored order, please visit the Archdiocese of Denver's page, Restored Order of the Sacraments of Christian Initiation and our diocesan policy, Completion of Christian Initiation of baptized Catholics.
